How Trauma in Childhood Has a Long Term Impact

This article offers an excellent explanation of how trauma in childhood has a long term impact. Children, who are dependent on adult caretakers, use minimization of the pain caused by trauma as a defense mechanism. As children get older and start to realize the psychological harm done to them, they are more willing to discuss the trauma and be amenable to help. This has been my experience in dealing with childhood trauma. I have learned that EMDR and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy can be used in tandem with excellent outcomes.
